Vegetal, a model for design ?

Plasticity, mutations and adaptability

This programme allowed vegetal design to open up to research areas in art, human sciences and natural sciences: urbanism, architecture, visual arts, philosophy, sociology, botany, agronomy, etc.

Plants : qualities open to interpretation (programme 2011-2014)
Seeking to give the discipline of vegetal design a theoretical foundation, and to give a form to this research, the ESAD Reims carried out a programme over three years, which resulted in a publication, in January 2014 : Faut pas Pousser, éditions de l’ESAD.

This programme allowed vegetal design to open up to research areas in art, human sciences and natural sciences: urbanism, architecture, visual arts, philosophy, sociology, botany, agronomy, etc. It aims to understand what the operational modes of vegetal can bring, as a process, to art and to design. It consists in taking the strategies that are specific to the vegetal domain and transferring or interpreting them from the position, the method and the production of the designer. Designers place themselves at the same scale of the object or the plant, seen as a subject, on the same level as man, and base their approach on research in agricultural material, botanics, bio technology na d new technology. This project has been created in partnership with the UFR des Arts de l’Université de Picardie Jules Verne, the Université Paris Ouest Nanterre-La Défense and the Énsa-V (École nationale supérieure d’architecture de Versailles – National Superior College of architecture of Versialles) in the framework of LabEx Paysage.

It has helped student’s research around the plasticity of plants (Master 1 product design in 2012), and the proposals around urban agriculture (exhibition : La Comédie de Reims/ Festival Reims Scènes d’Europe, octobre 2013, Jardins Jardins, juin 2014).
